- Ugly scenes marred Everton’s 2-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais in a Europa League group match at Goodison Park on Thursday evening. Ashley Williams appeared to be caught in the middle of a brawl involving players from both teams. A football fan who was carrying a toddler with one hand was even seen throwing a punch at a footballer with his other hand.
A football fan could face criminal proceedings due to his involvement in a mass brawl between Everton and Olympique Lyonnais footballers on Thursday evening.
The incident occured in the second half of Everton’s 2-1 loss to Lyon in the Europa League.
In the 64th minute, Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes retrieved the football from a corner. After, Everton captain Ashley Williams appeared to shove the Lyon player into the advertising hoardings that act as a barrier between the pitch and the fans.
As pushing and shoving between multiple players escalated, an Everton supporter – who was seen carrying a toddler – appeared to push, slap, or throw a punch at Lopes’ head.

Merseyside Police said it “can confirm officers are investigating following a disturbance on the pitch during a football match between Everton and Lyon at Goodison Park.
“Detectives will be reviewing footage and speaking to witnesses to establish what, if any, offences have been committed.”
An official statement from Everton says an individual has been banned from future matches. “We have identified one individual whom action will now be taken against.
“This will include a ban from attending future Everton fixtures and the club registering a formal complaint with Merseyside Police.”
