The Best and Worst Countries to be a Single Dude

By Kiran Dhillon

Single dudes need a break.

We’ve all seen that guy standing at the bar, scanning his surroundings, and shouting his fifth feeble introduction of the night as Avicii blasts through the speakers. Feeling as if he might have a shot, he buys yet another overpriced drink and hands it to the woman he approached, who chats for five minutes before excusing herself to a bathroom that she doesn’t need to use. He sighs and returns to scanning the room. On to the next one.

Instead of scorning men like this, their tenacity should be applauded. In a bizarro world where women were expected to pick up men and were rejected as many times as the average male has been, most would curl up in a ball and accept a new life as a crazy cat lady. Thankfully, instead of receding into a dark cloud of rejection, men have developed a tough hide. And yes, some have resorted to playing the numbers game. Who can blame them?

Guys, if you’re going to strike out, you might as well set yourself up for success and go where the numbers are. Following are the countries where you have the best statistical chance of finding a lady.

Eastern Europe ispackedwith women. Topping the charts are the Baltic women of Estonia. They’ll surely be charmed by your American accent and won’t be able to wait to take you home. With 110,000 more women than men in the country, they might even start fighting over you.

Next, look east to Russia. Russian women got a taste of foreign men during the Olympic Games, and they probably want more. Now that all your competition has flown back home, it’s the perfect time to swoop in and spice up their lives again.

However, if you’re a little weary about the events unfolding in Russia with Ukraine, you might want to skip the country and make a quick hop over to Lithuania instead. You observed Baltic courtship in Estonia, here’s your chance to take off the training wheels and woo the women of Lithuania with everything you learned.

Also important to note: there are a few countries you should definitely avoid during your quest for companionship. If eastern Europe is the epicenter for women, the Arabian Peninsula doesn’t even register a 1 on the Richter scale.

Unless you’re George Clooney, you won’t have much chance in Qatar, where there are about 1.5 million males and 450,000 females.

The steady flow of male expatriates in the construction and energy industry in Qatar-and the rest of peninsula-explains the huge discrepancy. In a country with a total population of 1.95 million people, only 278,000 are national Qataris.

Unless you want to kick back, have a beer, and completely forget about women for few weeks, you’ll want to avoid these expat-heavy countries.

But wait, dates are expensive. If you’re on the job hunt and not financially ready to woo that lucky lady, consider a visit to Uzbekistan, predicted to have the lowest unemployment rates in the world by 2018.
