5 Malaysian universities in top 50 of QS’ Asia university rankings

Malaysia’s five research universities are in the top 50 of Quacquarelli Symonds QS’ 2019 list of the best universities in Asia.

Among them, Universiti Malaya (UM) performed the best by rising five notches to 19th spot.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is at 34th position, while Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia are at 41st, 43rd and 47th place respectively.

Singapore’s National University of Singapore (NUS) is at first place, replacing Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as the best university in Asia.

The University of Hong Kong takes second place, while Beijing’s Tsinghua University shares the third spot with NTU.

China and Hong Kong each have three universities in the top 10, while two of the institutions are from South Korea.

China’s universities take up five spots in the top 20, showing an improved performance compared to last year’s three.

While Japan is the second most represented country in the top 20, its best performer – The University of Tokyo – failed to make it to the top 10.
