Eight NATO allies competed in the third annual Strong Europe Tank Challenge in Germany last week, which saw the host country emerge as the victor.
It was the second time the Germans, who were operating their Leopard 2A6 tanks, won the competition at the Grafenwoehr Training Area, according to the US Army.
The US Army’s squad from the 1st Infantry Division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, which was operating an Abrams M1A2 SEP, didn’t even finish in the top three spots, according to Stars and Stripes.
Although the US team didn’t fare well, the competition did give them and the other NATO allies (including France, the UK and Poland) a chance to train together and build relationships, according to The War Zone.
It also gave the US team a chance to smash a bunch of random old cars with their tanks, which were decked out in World War II green paint with a white stars.
