Former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been suffering from a flu and high fever for a week, his son Mukhriz Mahathir said on Sunday (Dec 3).

Mukhriz, the deputy president of the Bersatu political party, also said his 92-year-old father apologised for not being able to attend the party’s Jelajah Semarak ceramah.

I would like to send my father’s regards. He apologises for not being able to join us due to his poor health,” he was quoted by New Straits Times as saying.

He added that Dr Mahathir was still able to participate in activities organised during the day, but has been advised by his doctor not to take part in night activities.

Although he was absent, his presence was still felt as the party played a recorded message from its founder at the event.
