It’s apparently “a trendsetter in the mobile photography field”.
Judges explained that as they awarded the title of 2018’s best smartphone to the Huawei P20 Pro, a device from the world’s second biggest phone manufacturer.
The awarding body – European Imaging and Sound Association (Eisa) – is actually a collection of 55 consumer electronics magazines from regions including Europe and the United States. Members shortlist products for the yearly award before voting the final winner at the group’s annual general meeting.
The Chinese phone in question has a Leica triple camera with the highest total pixel count among all smartphone cameras on the market, Huawei said in a statement.
It also has AI image stabilisation and advanced zoom functions.
The judges noted other aspects of the camera and referred to its long-lasting battery, “dazzling glass finish”, and its ability to shoot long-exposure photos clearly without a tripod, even in low light.
Eisa’s statement continued: “The Huawei P20 Pro is the most advanced, innovative and technically superior smartphone ever. The perfect companion for mobile users, it is also a trendsetter in the mobile photography field due to the stunning photos and videos it produces.”
