Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and White House adviser, on Monday tweeted in support of a rousing acceptance speech Oprah Winfrey gave at Sunday night’s Golden Globes. But some critics pointed out that the speech was implicitly critical of the Trump administration.
“Just saw @Oprah’s empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes,” Trump tweeted. “Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP! #United.”
Winfrey’s speech largely received praise among those in entertainment and politics.
“I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, because we all know the press is under siege these days,” she said. “We also know it’s the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice.”
Winfrey also highlighted the recent wave of sexual-misconduct accusations against powerful men in Hollywood, the media, politics, tech, and other industries sparked by news reports in October detailing several women’s allegations against the producer Harvey Weinstein.
It has since emboldened national movements in support of women’s rights, #MeToo and the more recent Time’s Up, as well as renewed scrutiny of President Donald Trump, whom at least 22 women have accused of sexual misconduct. The president and the White House have flatly denied the accusations and sought to discredit the accusers.
“To tyrants and victims and secrets and lies, I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times, which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” Winfrey said.
“And I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories,” she continued. “Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell, and this year we became the story.”

This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka. YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit
