Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez revealed their engagement on Saturday by sharing a photo of the dazzling ring on social media.
Even though the couple started dating in 2017, the two stars actually met years ago, at a baseball game in 2005. After going through separate relationships, they reconnected in late 2016 and have been going steady since 2017.
Here’s a complete timeline of their relationship.

Lopez was eating lunch after filming a promo for her NBC television show “Shades of Blue.” She saw Rodriguez walk by the restaurant and tapped him on the shoulder after going outside.
“I almost yelled out ‘Alex,’ but I am the shyest person when it comes to things like that,” she told Vanity Fair in October 2017.
For their first date, Lopez said that Rodriguez “was nervous, and it was really cute.”

“I didn’t know if it was a date,” Rodriguez told Vanity Fair. “Maybe we were seeing each other at night because of her work schedule. I went in uneasy, not knowing her situation.”
Either way, he said, “It would be incredibly productive for me to sit with one of the smartest, greatest women in the world … I thought it would be a win-win no matter what.”

“We are very much twins,” Rodriguez told Vanity Fair. “We’re both Leos, we’re both from New York, we’re both Latino, and about 20 other things.”
The couple also both achieved massive success at a young age — and subsequently had to face challenges that often accompany such meteoric rises.
“We put so much pressure on ourselves to be great, to be the best all the time,” Lopez told Vanity Fair. “We understood that about each other. When we came together, it was, ‘Oh my God, I was the same way.'”
For their first Valentine’s Day as a couple in 2017, Rodriguez did the most to surprise Lopez.
The holiday took place weeks after they started dating, and Rodriguez sent the singer flowers, chocolates, and cake while she was in Vegas for her shows.
“I was like, ‘Who sent me all that? I didn’t know who it was, kind of, because it was kind of new,” Lopez recalled during an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in February 2019. “But it was really nice because it made me feel like, ‘Oh, he likes me.'”

Both stars have spoken about how well their children (from previous relationships) get along.
Rodriguez has two children, daughters Natasha and Ella, from his past marriage to Cynthia Scurtis. Lopez welcomed her twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony in 2008.
Rodriguez told People that Lopez is “a great role model” for his children.
“They look at her like she’s the Messiah,” he said.

“This is the first relationship I’ve been where I feel like we really make each other better,” Lopez told HOLA! USA.
She added: “We complement each other, and there’s really pure, true love. Just wanting to support the other person and make them happy.”
In April 2018, the couple purchased a $15.32 million penthouse in New York City.
The penthouse is located at 432 Park Avenue, which is known as the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere.
Lopez and Rodriguez reportedly decided on a three-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom abode that occupies half of the 36th floor, and used a limited liability company to anonymously dole out $15.32 million for it.
Lopez said that she didn’t want to rush into marriage with Rodriguez because she “made plenty of mistakes” in her past.

“We’re mature now,” Lopez said during an interview that aired on ABC’s “Good Morning America” in June 2018. “We’re grownups and we’re going take our time and do things at our own pace.”
She also said that her life was currently focused on her work and her two children.
Lopez also took the blame for her past failed relationships.

Lopez said that her former relationships didn’t work because of her, rather than her partners.
“It didn’t have to do with anybody else but me – it was about me figuring out me,” the actress and singer told Harper’s Bazaar for their February 2019 issue. “Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that is pure and true.”
Lopez’s previous relationships with Ojani Noa, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Ben Affleck, Casper Smart, and Marc Anthony led her to have a healthy partnership with Rodriguez.
“Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing,” she said. “There’s an evolution there that had to happen for me. I feel like I’m in a better place now.”

The comedian lied to Lopez and said that Rodriguez texted the talk show host and revealed that the couple was going to get married, but the singer didn’t buy it.
At the time, Lopez said that she didn’t know if they’d get married, but it’s been “nice” dating him.
The following month, Lopez called Rodriguez “supportive” and “loving.”

He’s come into my life and really contributed in such a way,” the “Second Act” star said during an appearance on NBC’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in December 2018.
“Some people try to dull you down or squish you down and he’s so not like that and it’s just so refreshing,” she added. “It’s just a beautiful thing. He’s just a very generous, loving spirit [and] soul.”

Lopez shared a series of photos and gushed over two years of “laughter,” “fun,” “adventures,” and “true friendship.”
The singer wrote: “You make my world a more beautiful, safe, and stable place … In the midst of our ever-changing, ever-moving life … You make me feel like a teenager starting out all over again … Every time I think I have you pegged, you surprise me in the most wonderful ways reminding me how blessed I am to have found you now in this moment at this time… our time…”
Rodriguez also praised Lopez in his own post, saying that “it feels like we have been together forever.”
“We have done it all together and every moment with you is cherished,” he continued. “Where this road will take us next is unknown but there is no one else I would rather have by my side. The journey is just beginning and I am excited for what’s ahead.”
