Three-time Olympic silver medallist Lee Chong Wei did not play in this year’s Asian Games and World Championships due to early stage nose cancer.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia recently confirmed the illness, after a post claiming Lee had nose cancer went viral on social media. However, the post mistakenly identifies Lee’s cancer as third stage cancer.

Earlier this year, the Association announced Lee had a respiratory-related disorder, and would be taking a break from badminton. He was diagnosed with the illness in July.

The badminton legend is currently seeking treatment in Taiwan, and is “responding well”.
