Maxis is number one for 4G, 3G and overall network speeds in Malaysia, a report by OpenSignal shows.
The wireless coverage mapping firm said in its April 2018 report of Malaysia’s networks from Dec 1, 2017 to Feb 28, 2018, that Maxis was the only Malaysian operator to exceed 20 Mbps speeds in 4G tests.
“Small increases in 4G speed, 3G speed and 4G availability — along with the likely transition of more Maxis subscribers to 4G services — pushed Maxis’s average overall speed to 17 Mbps in our most recent measurements,” the report said.
Yes came in a close second with an overall speed score of 15.7 Mbps.
The YTL Corporation-owned network was the winner for 4G availability, with a score of 92.5%.
When analysed in Kuala Lumpur, 4G users were able to tap into Yes’s LTE service 93.2% of the time.
At the same time, Unifi Mobile and Celcom demonstrated the largest growths in availability from the previous analysis period at 10 percentage points and 7 percentage points respectively.
The new report for Dec to Feb also showed that five service providers had LTE availability scores higher than 75%, up from two in the previous June to Aug 2017 analysis.
