As 2018 comes to a close, it’s no surprise to see Malaysians travelling abroad to ring in the new year.
On Wednesday (Dec 26), online travel booking platform Agoda revealed the top New Year’s Eve destinations among Malaysian travellers come Dec 31, 2018.
Out of the top 10, five are foreign destinations – Bangkok, Taipei, Hat Yai, Tokyo and Seoul. This is in stark contrast to the lists from both 2016 and 2017, when there was only one foreign destination – Bangkok.
Those going overseas to usher in the New Year are staying close to home as the top overseas destinations are all within Asia.
Local destinations took up half the top 10 list, with Kuala Lumpur in overall first place.
Bangkok, Penang, Langkawi and Taipei followed.
Aside from Bangkok, another Thailand destination, Hat Yai, came in at sixth place. This makes Thailand is the most popular foreign destination for Malaysian travelers on Dec 31, Agoda said.
Tokyo, Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul and Osaka are the top destinations in Asia for Agoda travellers across the world.
