The events of the 14th Malaysia General Election has inspired “Rise: Ini Kalilah”, an omnibus film that will open on September 13 to coincide with Malaysia Day.

Comprising six stories featuring different individuals during that historic period in Malaysian history, its ensemble cast includes Remy Ishak, Mira Filzah and Sangeeta Krishnasamy.

The anthology movie, which is estimated to cost around RM$2 million ($490140), began shooting in May in locations such as Malaysia, Singapore and Britain, The Star reported.

Filming for “Rise: Ini Kalilah” was completed in such a short time because the movie has three directors and one of them, Saw Teong Hin, took the challenge of the ambitious project with a tight production deadline in his stride.

“This is by far the most challenging project I have ever been involved in but also the most satisfying to see an all-Malaysian team working hand-in-hand together,” Saw said in a press statement.

The title theme song is a cover of the national tune “Sejahtera Malaysia” and is sung by Malaysian songbird Datuk Sheila Majid. It was originally performed by Mohammad Rauzan Alwi and various versions by the likes of Dato Siti Nurhaliza and Bell Yu Tian have been recorded over the years.
